Christ the King
Dear Epiphany Family,
On this Sunday, the last of the liturgical/Church year, we celebrate the Solemnity of Christ the King. In the crazy times we live in it helps us to refocus our minds, hearts, and the whole of our lives on Jesus as our king. Pope Pius XI instituted the feast in 1925 helping to remind the faithful that while governments and philosophies come and go, Christ reigns as king forever.
In a homily on the feast in 2013 Pope Francis preached, “Jesus is the center of creation; and so the attitude demanded of us as true believers is that of recognizing and accepting in our lives the centrality of Jesus Christ, in our thoughts, in our words and in our works”. We are called to let Him reign in and through our lives, remembering that our hope and salvation is only in Him.
Please join me in praying this beautiful prayer taken from the Christ the King novena:
Christ, our Savior and our King, renew in me allegiance to Your Kingship.
I pray for the grace to place You above the powers of this world in all things.
I pray for the grace to obey You before any civic authority.
I pray for the grace to fervently bring about Your Kingdom in my family and community.
I pray that You will reign in my mind. I pray that You will reign in my heart.
I pray that You will reign in my will.
I pray that You will reign in my body.
O Prince of Peace, may Your reign be complete in my life and in the life of the world. Amen.
In Christ,
Father Eric
