All Souls Day

(Wisdom 3:1–9; Psalm 23:1–6; Romans 5:5–11; John 6:37–40)

Dear Parish Family,

This weekend, as we gather for the Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed — All Souls Day — we extend a warm and heartfelt welcome to all families returning to our parish community. Today, we come together not in sorrow alone, but in faith and hope, remembering our beloved deceased who now rest in the mercy and peace of God.

The readings of this solemn celebration speak words of profound comfort. The Book of Wisdom assures us that “the souls of the just are in the hand of God, and no torment shall touch them.” Though our hearts ache with the absence of those we love, faith reminds us that death is not the end — it is a passage into the fullness of life with God. In that divine presence, there is no pain, only peace, light, and eternal joy.

Psalm 23 beautifully echoes that same trust: “The Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing I shall want.” Even when we walk through “the valley of the shadow of death,” the Lord walks beside us. His rod and staff comfort us. Our Shepherd leads us beyond fear into the house of the Lord where our loved ones now dwell forever.

Saint Paul, in his Letter to the Romans, deepens our hope: “God proves His love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” In His Cross and Resurrection, Jesus conquered death and opened the gates of eternal life. The love that united us with our departed loved ones in this world is not destroyed by death — it is purified, transformed, and made eternal in Christ.

In today’s Gospel, Jesus promises: “Everyone who believes in me will have eternal life, and I shall raise them on the last day.” What a consoling assurance! No one is forgotten. Every name, every soul we remember today is known and cherished by God.

As we light candles, pray for our beloved dead, and renew our faith in the Resurrection, may this celebration strengthen our hope and draw us closer as one parish family — united in prayer, love, and the promise of everlasting life.

Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them.

Fraternally,
